About Me
|
My name is Hannah Durham, I am a rising junior, and I am from Cary, North Carolina. I will graduate in 2026 with a degree in Finance and a Law and Society Interdisciplinary Minor.
On campus, I have been involved in many types of organizations. I joined Women in Business Council as a freshman to better connect with Darla Moore students, and I am currently part of the Institute of Management Accountants. Both organizations taught me how to build connections with local professionals and Moore school students. Freshman year I joined the Carolina Judicial Council, and initially I was a Sanctioning Panelist. Then, in January of 2023 I became the Treasurer and held this role until January of 2024. Now, I am a Hearing Chair and within this role lead CJC hearings. Through the CJC, I met wonderful student and faculty leaders, and was asked to work at the Office of Conduct and Academic Integrity as a Student Assistant. Within this role, I continue to uphold the Creed and work directly with faculty members who believe in the well-being of our campus as much as I do. As a student assistant, I work with police departments, scholastic institutions, and UofSC students and faculty to organize daily schedules, track student records, and continue to learn about the impact of the Carolinian Creed on campus. Last year, I joined Student Government as a Darla Moore Senator in early March. After becoming a Senator, I was appointed as Vice Chairman of the Finance Committee, and I later became the Chairman until the end of the 2023-2024 Senatorial Term. This opportunity taught me how to manage a six figure budget, how to allocate funds, and gave me a greater understanding of what it means to serve the student body. I worked on projects that ranged from collecting data about the needs and infrastructure updates that Darla Moore students would like to improve, to tabling that better connected Student Government to the student body, to funding nationwide UofSC student programs. |
Capstone Scholars helped me achieve my goals in unexpected ways. I strongly believe that the people you surround yourself with are a reflection of your own aspirations, and being in the Capstone Scholars program is one of the main reasons that I am surrounded with driven, intellectual, and confident leaders. I joined Student Government because a friend in Capstone Scholars encouraged me to run for office, I joined IMA and WIBC with fellow Capstone Scholars, and many of the members of CJC are Capstone Scholars. Capstone Scholars reaches almost every aspect of campus and continues to encourage everyone involved to follow their passions and to be the best version of themselves. Capstone Scholars is helping me to reach my goals because it creates a space where I can learn and follow my personal interests simultaneously, and I feel that I am a more well-rounded person after experiencing the opportunities that the Capstone Scholars program has given me over the past two years.
On a more personal note, Capstone Scholars made the University of South Carolina my home. I attended the Capstone Scholars Welcome Event in the fall of 2023, where I met my friend group that I consider to be family. Together, we travel the United States, attend concerts, study in the Thomas Cooper Library, and support each other personally and professionally. I am so appreciative of the wide range of opportunities and experiences that Capstone Scholars has given me, and I am excited to continue making memories and growing with my Capstone peers.
Looking Forward |
Capstone Scholars has changed the person I am in the best ways possible. I entered college as a shy and introverted girl. I knew that I wanted to study business, but I did not have an clear path that I wanted to follow.
Then, I took the Capstone Scholar Business Student course, and I was able to talk with peers who gave me a lot of direction about the different avenues that are possible within business, and those conversations helped guide me on a path to study Finance. I found out that building connections is a central part of being a Capstone Scholar, and those connections became the source of some of my favorite personal memories and professional experiences that I will carry with me for the rest of my life. Capstone Scholars taught me that I am not an introvert - I am actually an extrovert! All I needed was a program that would push me to socialize, get involved on campus, and seek professional experiences, and that is exactly what Capstone Scholars provided for me. Looking ahead, I will use the networking tools that I learned through Capstone Scholars to continue building my professional network, and my main goal is to have a finance internship in the summer of 2025. My next major goal that I will reach is graduating with a degree in finance, which I will use when I enter into a corporate job. |
